Hi, I'm Lauren, founder of Backyard Homestead Supply Co.

I started raising chickens and ducks because I loved it. The fresh eggs were great, but honestly, it was the chickens and ducks themselves. Watching them scratch around the yard, seeing their different personalities, and realizing that no two birds are quite alike. It's one of those things that's hard to explain until you've done it yourself.

Once I got into it, I started paying more attention to what actually makes a good chicken coop. Not just what looks good in a photo, but the things that really matter: predator protection, ventilation, solid construction, and materials that can handle being outside year after year.

The more I learned, the more I realized that a lot of this stuff isn't obvious when you're just getting started. You usually learn it after something doesn't work the way you thought it would.

That's really what this business is about. I want people starting their own flock, or replacing a coop that isn't cutting it, to have better information and better options than whatever happens to show up first in a search.

We carry coops from builders who pay attention to the details, because when you're keeping chickens, those details matter.
